wii?...oui!

what is it about exercise that makes me feel so darn fabulous?  i know that after only a few weeks of working out every other day i can't possibly be looking any better - and i know i haven't lost a pound (or even 1/2 of one - the melodious, kindly voice of the wii lets me know every time i step onto the balance board how svelte i am not).  BUT, i feel like i look bettter because all of those lovely endorphins are running around my body, energizing me and helping me sleep better at night.  though i do agree with my jaded and ever-so hip elder brother that nintendo is definitely cashing in on the whole "fit" concept - like calling something "all natural" and expecting people not to read the ingredients and figure "i'm good", it's working for me.  i've heard some diss it, with comments like: just get off of your butt and go run.  but, really, i don't have time alone from my children to do those sorts of things unless i want to do it in the dark, and the freezing cold.  i don't own a treadmill or a membership to a gym.  i'm also not in shape like i used to be - so any movement (aside from hoisting my 25-lb 5 month old around) is a calorie-burning wonder.  and folks, take it from someone who has been doing yoga off and on for almost 15 years - if you do it right, it works.  just yoga.  admittedly, it's kind of pathetic that i have to have a computer connected to a miraculous little balance board (how DOES that thing do what it does, really?) to actually do the yoga instead of just on my own.  but the sight of my plump little mii and the snarky little comments does just the trick for me.  i feel accountable.

  1. I'm all for the Wii fit! I have had a ton of fun on it.. try the obstacle course - it gets a bit of a sweat going :D
I think just doing something "for you!" makes you feel good and yes, those enorphins get that glow going and add a little spunk to your step.

  3. We just got the wii fit for Christmas. So I'm excited to try it. I sprained my foot running, so I'm out of commission for a little bit, but maybe it's a sign that I need to focus on low impact things for a while, like yoga, instead of bone jarring things like running. Although, I have to admit, I'm afraid of the chubby mii that it will make. I already know how much I weigh, and I'm pretty sure it won't be kind when I step on that board. Ah well, at least I have curves I guess.

  4. I have really wanted to get the Wii fit - I think either I could wake up before the boys and do it - or like right now instead of sitting on the computer! I have got to get that. I never liked running - ugh! And yeah, why would I do that in the cold, freezing dark - we have no street lights around here. In the summer, we're good about going to the walking trail along the river with our bikes or just walking, but winter is hard. I am truly in need of shedding some lbs. I was SOOO excited a while back when I lost some weight and was into some size 8 pants! Wow, is right. Now I'm back up a couple sizes and have these cute pants waiting for Mii!

  5. Love it. Keep up the good work, you are looking great! Me, I dream of having a treadmill and watching the tv. That sounds like a great, entertaining way to lose a few.
